Carolyn founded GoodWin Law and leads its labour law practice. She represents unionized employees and the unions that advocate for them — including in collective bargaining, where the stakes are high and the outcomes shape a workforce for years to come. She has practiced across British Columbia for decades, across industries as varied as post-secondary education, fire service, construction, and professional sports. She knows this field — its history, its players, its pressure points — with the kind of depth that only comes from having done the work, at every level, for years. Her path into labour law began with an internship at the International Labour Organization in Geneva — and it set the course for everything since.

Carolyn built GoodWin around a single conviction: that workers and their unions deserve specialist counsel on their side.

Carolyn's first instinct in any new matter is curiosity. She wants to understand everything — the workplace, the relationships, the dynamics, the details her clients might not think to mention. She doesn't make assumptions. She explores. And she does it without judgment: whatever brought a client to her office, her focus is on the person in front of her and the best possible outcome available to them. Part of that curiosity is working out what a good outcome actually means for this client — which isn't always compensation. Sometimes it's an apology, confidentiality, or simply knowing the person responsible was held to account, and Carolyn listens for that real goal before she builds a strategy around it. Clients don't need to arrive with a perfectly packaged story. They need to arrive. Carolyn will do the rest.

Carolyn is direct with her clients in the way that only someone with deep experience can be — clear-eyed, measured, and always in her clients’ best interests. She'll make space for the frustration that comes with a workplace dispute, and she'll also tell you what the process looks like and where its limits are. That candour is part of how she prepares people — and it’s why clients quickly come to trust her.

What follows from that trust is Carolyn's full commitment. She is relentless in the pursuit of the best available outcome — thorough, organized, and impossible to discourage. Files under her management have no loose ends. Every piece of a file is accounted for. Every angle is considered. And when the matter is finally argued, Carolyn is known for a particular skill: finding the analogy or the framing that makes a complicated point land — and stay landed — with the person deciding it. She has the stamina for the long fights and the focus for the complex ones, and she brings both to every matter she takes on. Her clients don't just get a lawyer. They get someone who is genuinely invested in the outcome — and who won't stop until she's found it.
